Pakjira Jareewaruroj, 24, a culinary student and apprentice chef at Hilton Cairns, has impressed judges with her menu to win a silver medal in the North Queensland finals of the 2021 Nestlé Golden Chef's Hat Award.
Ms Jareewaruroj created a silver two-course menu of chicken breast marinated with Thai herbs, served with broccolini, sweet potato puree and Thai-style sauce. This was followed by a desert of meringue with French coffee and vanilla mousse filling served with rhubarb compote, chocolate dust and orange segments.
"The best advice I've been given is to grasp every opportunity, do your best, and that way you'll have no regrets," Ms Jareewaruroj said. The Golden Chef Hat is open to competitors aged between 16 and 25 who are currently or recently employed in the culinary profession.
